Masonry Mortars

Masonry Mortar is a masonry cement based dry mortar.

Mortar is the material that sticks two masonry units together and prevents water from getting into the wall — it is what you see between bricks.

Since mortar plays such an important role in masonry construction, selecting the correct type of mortar is vital.

The maximum grain size is 2.0 mm.

What is the Ingredients?

Masonry mortar is composed of one or more cementitious materials, fine mason sand and sufficient water to produce a workable mixture. The cementitious material may be a portland cement/lime mixture or masonry cement. A typical mortar consists of 1 part cementitious material to 2 ¼ - 3 ½ parts sand by volume.

What is the best mortar ratio?

Mortar is used to lay bricks and with time may need repointing. The preferable mortar mix ratio for pointing is 1-part mortar and either 4 or 5 parts building sand. The ratio will vary depending on what exactly is being pointed. For bricklaying, you will usually want a 1:4 ratio with plasticiser added to the mixture.

When selecting or specifying a mortar, it is crucial to know what it will be used for. Each mortar type has its own purpose and will function under the appropriate application. In the event you are unsure of the correct material properties required for your restoration project, please always consult with a structural engineer or architect to get the correct information – it will save time, money, and most importantly, the integrity of your building for years to come.

Anxin cellulose ether products can make the cement fully hydrated, significantly increase the bonding strength, and can also increase the tensile bonding strength and shear bonding strength of the hardened mortar. Meanwhile, it can significantly improve workability and lubricity, greatly improving the construction effect and improving work efficiency.
