HEC Hydroxyethyl Cellulose Suppliers

Short Description:

CAS NO.:9004-62-0

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is nonionic soluble cellulose ethers, both soluble in hot and cold water. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is a white free-flowing granular powder, treated from the alkali cellulose and ethylene oxide by etherification, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose has been widely used in paint and coating, oil drilling ,pharma, food, textile, paper-making, PVC and other application fields. It has good thickening, suspending, dispersing, emulsifying, film-forming, water-protecting and providing protective colloid properties.

3.Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) Applications:

In water based paint,it plays a role of dispersing and protecting gels, enhancing reaction stability of agglomerate system, ensuring homogeneous distribution of pigment and stuffing, and providing effect of thickening, improving fluidity.

In oil drilling,it is used as stabilizer and thickening agent, lubricating agent for well drilling, completing and consolidating to give slurry a good fluidity and stability.

In construction,HEC can be used as thickening agent and cohesive agent to improve the fluidity and workability, increase initial gelling strength and avoid cracking.

In brushing and cohering plaster,it may obviously raise water-holding and coherence strength.

In daily-use chemical such as toothpaste it gives a good physical and chemical property, making it good in shape, long period of storage, hard be dry and permeated.

In cosmetic field,it can increase material density, adding lubrication and smoothness.

Besides,it has wide application in ink, textile dyeing & printing, paper making, pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture etc.

4.Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) Using method :

First Method: Directly Put In

1. Pour pure water into bucket provided with stirrer.

2. At beginning slowly stir, evenly scatter HEC into solution.

3. Stir until all the HEC granules fully wetted.

4. First put in anti-mildew agent, then add in additives such as pigment, disperser etc.

5. Carry on stirring until all the HEC and additives entirely dissolved(viscosity in the solution obviously increasing),then put in other ingredients to react.

Second Method: Prepare Mother Liquor for Use

First prepare thick mother liquor, then put it in product. The advantage of the method is flexibility, the liquor may be directly be put in product. The procedure and way to use is same as 1-4 in the method(Ⅰ),be sure stir until fully dissolved into sticky and thick solution and put anti-mildew agent into mother liquor as early as possible.

Third Method: Prepare Gruel-like Material for Use

Since organic solvents are non-solvents for HEC,they can be used to prepare gruel-like material. The most used are ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and film-forming agent (hexamethylene-glycol, diethyl glycol butyl acetate etc.)So is icy water,it also can be prepared together with organic solvents into gruel-like material.

Gruel-like material can be put in product because HEC in gruel-like material has been fully soaked and swollen up,put in product it dissolves immediately and promotes thickening, but do keep stirring until it entirely dissolves.

Usually the gruel-like material is obtained by mixing organic solvent or icy water with HEC in a proportion of 6:1,after 5-30 minutes HEC hydrolyzes and notably swells. The method is not adopted in summer owing to hot weather.

5.Application Guide for Paint Industries

High Thickening Effects

Hydroxyethy Cellulose provides the latex paints especially high PVA paints with excellent coating performance. When the paint is thick paste, no flocculation will occur.

Hydroxyethy Cellulose has higher thickening effects, so can reduce the dosage, improve the cost-effectiveness of formulation, and enhance the washing resistance of paints.

Excellent Rheological Properties

The aqueous solution of Hydroxyethy Cellulose is a non-Newtonian system, and the properties of the solution are called thixotropy.

In the stationary state, after the product is completely dissolved, the coating system can maintain the best thickening condition and can-opening state.

In the dumping state, the system can keep a moderate viscosity, making products with excellent fluidity, and not spatter.

During brushing and roller coating, the product is easy to spread on the substrate, so convenient for construction, and meanwhile, has good spatter resistance.

Finally, after the coating of paint is completed, the viscosity of the system will immediately get restored, and the paint will immediately produce sagging property.

Dispersion and Solubility

Hydroxyethy Cellulose is all treated by the delayed dissolution, and in the case of adding dry powder, can effectively prevent caking and make sure hydration starts after the adequate dispersion of HEC powder.

Hydroxyethy Cellulose after a proper surface treatment can well regulate the dissolution rate and viscosity increase rate of the product.

Storage Stability

Hydroxyethy Cellulose has good mildew-resistant performance, provides enough storage time for paints, and effectively prevent settlement of pigments and fillers.a
